Easter Day
Today's selected readings:
As per lectionary
The Practical Sermon Activity
* Tell the Easter story.
* Explain the purpose of the "Smashing Egg" ceremony.
(Just use the small 30¢ size eggs for this and possibly using
a very large one for one child to do out the front - They then
share the chocolate with the rest of Kids Church)
Kids Church Activity:
To make a tomb and Easter garden. Cut the end of the egg off
using a hot knife so it doesn't break and a little from the bottom
so it sits correctly. Affix the egg to a chocolate biscuit with
melted chocolate. Place small flowers around the tomb as a garden.
These can be small dobs of coloured icing to resemble flowers.
Then with a chocolate lolly about the size and thickness of a
20¢ piece (for the rock in front of the tomb) Write the words on the biscuit in icing piped or small stcker.
"Christ is Risen" .
What you need to get ready:
* Easter eggs * Chocolate coated biscuits * Icing and various
colouring with fancy head for icing plunger * Small flower heads
to be placed around the tomb (If you don't want to use icing)
*Small chocolate sweets about the size of a 20¢ piece and
about the same thickness.
DURING THE CHURCH SERVICE (Smashing Egg Ceremony)
You could hand out small chocolate eggs to everyone. At the end of the Gospel reading have them place the egg in an open hand and after the Priest says "Christ is Risen", those with the eggs say the words "He is risen in deed" as they smash their other hand on top of the egg to smash it. They they enjoy the egg.
