PEWSHEET SUGGESTIONS
WEEK 1
Friendship
Recent photos from Mars remind us what a vast universe we live in. In this context, the experience of friendship is such a blessing. Imagine a universe in which we felt utterly alone! This first study of our Lent book “Loving God and each other” looks a little at how we find our friends, the touch of divine providence, the inexpressible joy of God’s friendship in Jesus. This study also introduces us to meditation in Jesus name.
WEEK 2
Deeper awareness through Communion
God calls us into deeper communion. How can we better prepare for all God would share with us? In Lent, we ponder how we can be more open to God, “placing no obstacle to God’s work” – Saint Ignatius. This study looks at some important issues for personal review. For example, how well we listen to God in prayer and meditation? Do we let distractions stop us listening properly to other people? Questions are raised for our greater awareness.
WEEK 3
Deeper Communion through Illumination
Awareness of the ways we may block God and resolve to make some changes, is all part of our discipleship of Jesus. Wholeheartedly loving God and one another takes some effort! This study looks forward to the moments of illumination, encouraging our focus on God's humility and ours.
WEEK 4
A Rule of Life
As we look forward to deeper communion with God and one another, we are encouraged to think about our Rule of Life. A rule of life consolidates our resolve to be as God wills us to be. Each stage of life has its particular joys and complexities. What have we found helpful for this stage of life? What can we pass on to others?
WEEK 5
Seeking Unity with God. What might we see?
Jesus promises “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” – Matthew 5:8. Our studies have tried to help us do our part in being open to God’s gracious promises. Seeking to be more open, we have practised meditation in Jesus name. We have asked ourselves some hard questions and we have tried to learn from the great tradition of holy peoples. Perhaps now we can ask ourselves: What would it be like to see God?
