"Special service for Scouts and Guides - Working as a team."

Today's selected readings: – Galatians 5: 16-18, 22-26 (Gifts of the spirit)

• (A bowl of fruit is needed for talk)
• Each of the groups have representatives that firstly speak briefly what the overall aim of scouts/guides is.
• Members then display in an action sense, what the groups activities include and what benefit is achieved from them
• The Christian talk follows
• This bowl of fruit has a variety of fruits in it. Each of them are special in themselves. Eg: The gentleness of a pear, the crunchiness of an apple, the texture and tanginess of an orange etc
• And only when these are put together in a fruit salad is their collective value fully appreciated.
• Today's reading stresses that the current view in society is wrong. That is the "I" factor and often at the expense of others.
• God gives each of us special gifts Eg: Some are better at performing kind deeds than others, others are gentle, patient, faithful (true mate), self control (Not led by others) etc.
• And in this church, we have people with a combination of all these special God given gifts and when they come together for the common good, we call that the Church.
• The church is only people who come together for the common good.
• So too with Guides and Scouts. Your individual skills are often shared with those who are not as good as you may be.
• Like the bowl of fruit salad like Guides/Scouts, like the Church when we work together for the common cause our best is offered and experienced.
• In Christian terms, we thank God for the gifts he has given us that we can share with others to help combat the "I" mentality of society which is very selfish.
