Jesus sends out the 12 disciples
 

Today's selected readings: Mark 6: 6 - 13
 

Kids Church Talk:

* Do you belong to a gang at school (Discuss)
* Is there anything special about it?
* What does it do, and what do you have to do to be a member? (Discuss)
* There are lots of clubs and groups in our area today for people to belong to.
* Sports clubs, Book clubs, Computer clubs etc.
* Each of these normally have a leader and other helpers. In Adult language we sometimes call them President, Secretary, Treasurer etc.
* I guess they are kind of like having a leader of the gang/group and he/she has most of the say and makes a lot of the decisions (Discuss)
* Jesus, as we heard in todays story also had his own gang or group of followers
* He taught them all about God, and gave them the skill (explain) that they needed.
* He then told them they were to go into other places (other than where they lived and tell people about what he had taught them
* But they were not to take a great amount of luggage with them so they could get around easier (Had no cars and mostly went on foot and had to carry everything with them)
* What would you put in your swag if you were going to do this task for Jesus (Discuss)
* Many of you have the chance to be Jesus' followers at school. You could tell your friends about the great things that happen here and invite them to come with you one Sunday.

What you need to get ready:
* Pole about the thickness of your finger about 2 - 3' long
* Material to make the swan
* Cord
* Stickers for the handle. These could be "Love hearts etc" from places like cheap as chips, or the better quality texts etc from the Christian book shops.
* Texta's
* Modern version of the NT to be added. Currently the Bible society have some excellent and colourful NT's which are designed to link in with the Olympics. Very contempory and includes colour photo's of sportsman and their stories of faith. If children are very young, you could put in a "Palm Tree" series booklet on one of the gospel stories. These are very colourful and excellent value.

Kids Church Activity:
* To make a swag that goes on the shoulder.
* To decorate the pole with religious sayings using texta's or stickers
