Beatitudes

"Beatitudes" - The word is Latin for 'beati' which means really happy.

Today's selected readings: Matthew 5: 1-12

 

Kid's Church talk: -

  • How many of you have every cried?
  • What do these tears mean?
  • At times, tears can mean two different things. Sadness and happiness( Give examples)
  • What are the things that make you happy (Discuss)
  • What about those Jesus talks about in todays Gospel - What would make them happy (Go through list)
  • People ae blessed when they receive God given assistance - His help, and the help of his disciples here on earth (us)
  • When we comfort and encourage those who are down in the dumps we are showng God's love
  • When we help those who have lost a loved one, we are shoing God's love in practical terms (And so on through the list)
  • God wants us to be happy, no matter what our situation is in life and to be grateful for the things that really matter (Friends, Family etc)
  • Today we are going to assemble in our "Happy Box" things that make us happy.

Kids Church Activity:
To make a box similar to the Macdonald’s happy meal style. You might even ask them for what you require. Decorate the box with gems, glitter etc. Children to include in the box things that make them happy. Sweets (Use talkies lollies with sayings on them), Parties (Balloons), God (Bible portion), Pets (Dog sweets in a bag), Family (Make play dough caricatures of each member)

What you need to get ready:

The box could be manufactured, but either ask McDonalds, Handy jacks, Chicken shop etc for a few boxes or you could purchase a see through plastic one. Catering places have these. Glue, Glitter, plastic gems (often you can get these from Bunnings in the craft section) talkies lollies, Balloons, Bible portion, Dog sweets, play dough or plasticine.
