“Calling of Matthew to be a disciple”

Today's selected reading: – Mark 2: 13 - 22

Kids Address

• Do you belong to a special group of friends at school?
• What are their qualities?
• What would make you not want to be with a group of school friends. What sort of things would you not be happy with?
• Good friends are very important to have, and if you were the boss of a certain profession, good staff would also be what you look for.
• What would some of these qualities be?
• This was the same with Jesus in today's story. He was looking for men to join him in telling others about Jesus
• But he wanted to make sure they were the right types that would fit in well
• He wanted them to be loyal, friendly, caring, committed, reliable (Do you know what these words mean?)
• The story also reminds us that we need to have these qualities if we want to be part of Jesus special family here at Saint Thomas'
• Because you come here to Saint Thomas', this is a great help to be able to be a great disciple (follower) of Jesus as we learn more about him.
• As we do this we obtain more knowledge about Jesus so we are able to tell our friends about him and our parish family here as well.

Kids Church Activity:
Children to have a game outside and two captains to be appointed and each have to choose the team. This gives the opportunity for the leaders to stress how sometimes people are not picked because of their size or not their friends. If it is a game them people are chosen to help them win. Cf: Jesus chose people who would be faithful to him and be the best people to help him tell others about God. – BABIES & TODDLERS SERVICE
