“Request for best positions – To be the chosen ones”

Today's selected reading: – Mark 10: 35-45

Kids Address
• When you are with your friends do you like just being part of the group or do you prefer to be top dog and get all the attention (Discuss)
• Not everyone can be THE leader. Sometimes you get the chance to share being the leader and other times you are just one of the group.
• Like last week when we stressed the importance of sharing
• Take the football for example. What about your team? Where did they finish up on the ladder? Only one team can win the grand final
• Each of the players have to work at being the best. Some become the team captain whilst others are the members that make up the team. Each one is very important.
• Not all can be an AFL ruckman. Not everyone is tall. But then you need rovers to come in and swoop up the ball. Others are goal kickers. All positions on the football team are important.
• Today's story would be like Jesus being the coach of the team and one of the players coming up to him and asking to be Captain. The selection of a captain is for the coach alone to decide.
• The disciples in today's story had no right to seek out the best positions. This was the choice of Jesus alone
• Like going to a party and wanting to sit next to the birthday boy/girl. You should always wait to be asked because that is being polite.

• Jesus is saying to all of us - You are all important and special to me

Kids Church Activity:
Not everyone can be top dog. There are times we have to be a servant or less on the top dog tables. (Explain how dogs try to be the dominant one by climbing higher than others) – To make a ladder (like the football ladders the newspapers etc give away) and place 5 tasks in the slots. The parents to choose the activity the children are to undertake. Activities might include, making bed, loading/unloading dishwasher, putting out garbage, wiping up, cleaning room etc

Job ladder, task cards, scissors, pens, spirit pens, coloured pencils.
