“Commonwealth Games Final Day - Winning others for Jesus”

Today's selected reading: – Philippians 3: 7 - 16

Kids Address
• Today this is to take the form of a quiz after the children have had "Mothering Sunday" and the importance of competing for ones country rather than the winning aspect explained. This is not to put down enthusiasm for winning, but rather to stress "Running the race" is the real challenge for any Christian.

cf: Our parents love each of us as invididuals and realise that each child is unique and has different levels of skills. Yet, still loved equally. That is the same with Jesus. Not all of us have the gift of the gab when it comes to winning people for Jesus. It is more important that we use what skills we have and become part of the "Race" as today's reading explains.

Kids Church Activity:
Some of the children to make posies to give to Mum (Today also being Mothering Sunday), but also to make a number of "winning" posies to give to the winning team for the Quiz Race. Have the children (two teams) on either side of aisle and congregation to be asked questions. If correct, children move one pew until one reaches the end to become the winner. Today, the activity is to be a congregational activity with everyone being involved.

What you need to get ready:
The church needs to be decked out in Commonwealth Games materials to create the atmosphere, Simnel cake, knife, pink serviettes, small flowers with small stems, rubber bands to keep posy together, al foil around stems, tissue or better paper around the posy, questions for quiz re Lent and previous week's readings. Winners music to be played, medals given to children, dais for them to stand on to be awarded medals.

Additional Lent ideas can be found in the Catalogue section of previous material - The link is at the top of the opening page for Kids Church.
