Today's selected readings: 2 Thess 3: 6-15

Kid's Church talk: -

  • How wailed you feel if tea time came and went and Mum or Dad had not prepared a meal for the family (Comment)
  • How do you think Mum and Dad feel when they ask you to do something and your reply is "In a minute" Or worse, you just don't do what they ask anyhow.- (Discuss)
  • Family is a privilege and not an expectation. For a family to be just that, we need to do a lot of team work. Sharing the load to make it easier for everyone. Even more so, when Mum and Dad both work.
  • What might be some of the ways you could operate like a team at home (Discuss) - Do you do them?
  • In todays reading Saint Paul explains why it is wrong to be lazy. Do you know who Saint Paul was? (Discuss)
  • Paul tells us to not mix with lazy people or else we could finish up like them.
  • He also says you should work for your keep -Board, meals, lodging etc
  • As an adult living at home I was expected to share with the expenses of the house (Meals, rates etc)
  • Obviously Mum and Dad does not expect this while you are at school, but there are other ways in which you can be of assistance. Some of these we mentioned at the beginning of this talk.
  • Jesus expects us to pull our weight. If not we are only parasites or Mistletoe (Explain) living off the efforts of another
  • Family is important and we need to do our share.
  • That is why the parish family (explain) helps with all the jobs here. Lawns, Cuppa, Office duty, other Rosters, Kid's Church etc.
  • Saint Paul today is reminding us if we believe in being a family, we have to do our share.

Kids Church Activity:
To design their own handout sheet – A4 folded into half. Children to think of what obligations there may be for them to assist around the house. To stress that laziness does not impress God. Divide the pages into 3 sections to allow a place for parent to sign and the name of the assistance. The kids then find a picture from a magazine to insert. They are then to undertake as many of these activities as they can over the next week, have their parent sign the section to say they have undertaking this for a week.
