KIDS CHURCH ACTIVITIES – June & July 2008
JUNE 8 (Audra) (Karen Cong.) Matthew 9: 9-13 (Matthew Tax Collector called
by Jesus)
Activity: To make a face on a stick with hair, eye lashes, nose and mouth designed
in such a way as to look happy one side and when turned around unhappy.
Require: Disposal plate, scissors, thick wool for hair and eyebrows, craft glue,
black texta
JUNE 15 (Jenny) Matthew 9: 35 – 10: 4 (Jesus calls the Disciples) Harvest
Festival
Activity: To make a dust pan & broom. The idea being to encourage the children
to recognise a gift they have (In this case it could be helping Mum or Dad)
that comes from God that they can use for the benefit of others. Caring and
sharing are gifts from God and the Harvest Festival theme today is about sharing
the gifts God has given us.
Require: Flat rectangular box (lolly box or shoe box top), Two paper towel cardboard
tubes, Scissors, Ruler, Felt pen, tape, sheet of newspaper
JUNE 22 (Sherene) Matthew 10: 34 - 39 (We must love God more than anything
else)
Activity: To make swords where the slogan is on the blade “May God be
with you”. The sword was used in battle against evil forces. The love
of God is what a Christian uses today to show they love Him. Be strong when
teased for going to church, holding their head high when they apologise or do
an unselfish thing. All this happens because Christians want to put God first
in their lives.
Require: Thin wood cut outs of swords, al foil to make the sword glade, Craft
glue, slogan pre printed ready to stick on blade
JUNE 29 (Sherene & Anita) Matthew 10: 40-42 (Welcoming others is like welcoming
Jesus) Red Nose Day (Manny the Magician/Clown 9369 2948 attending)
Activity: Congregation encouraged to come dressed as clowns or face painted
etc. To also wear a SIDS (Sudden infant death syndrome) red nose. Clown magician
to be hired for kid’s talk and to help paint the faces of the children.
Children also to make a hanging banner saying ‘welcome” to all those
families who have experienced sadness in the loss of a child.
Require: Red noses, face-painting materials, material (6’ x 3’).
Cut out letters of coloured paper or material for welcome. Texta to write the
remainder of the message. Red noses added all around the banner, stapler, craft
glue.
JULY 6 (Anita) Matthew 11: 25 – 30 (God does not create heavy loads for
us)
Activity: Create a special wall hanging with the ‘footprints’ prayer
in the middle and children’s footmarks around the edge. Children to make
a mini poster for themselves with the footprints prayer on it together with
their personal foot print. Laminate the final result – Internet version
(if you have a connection) http://www.llerrah.com/footprints.htm
Require: Material 6’ x 3’, Poster paints, bucket to wash feet in,
towels, texta pen, A4 card with footprints prayer already printed on it, hole
punch, laminator and A4 laminate sheets.
JULY 13 (Jenny) (Karen Cong.) Matthew 13: 1-9 & 18-23 (Parable of the Sower)
Activity: To make a model of the story.
Require: Spiky twigs, pebbles and sand, largish rocks, potting mix, reasonably
deep meat tray or lid from a shoe box, icecream sticks, card to staple to the
sticks, staple gun, texta pen, scissors
JULY 20 (Sherene) Matthew 13: 24-30 (Parable of the weeds)
Activity: To make a growing chart for each child. Add things to the chart for
things like saying prayers. Helping people, telling the truth, coming to church
etc Talk to focus how bad thoughts or ideas can be planted in ones mind. It
all depends on how we re-act to the suggestions we have been given. Parents
to add stars or the special sticker when they do the right thing as a Christian.
Require: Growing chart A3 size on card, textas, glitter, craft glue, stickers
re done with Christian activities ready to add to chart.
JULY 27 (Andrew/Melinda) Pet Sunday
Activity: No major activity today.
Require: Children to be encouraged to bring along a pet to the service to be
blessed. Children and adult parishioners come to the communion rail (during
the mass) to receive the sacrament as well as have their pet blessed. BBQ to
follow the service and everyone at service invited to stay on.
