Kid's Church talk: -
• How often have you been asked by Mum or Dad to do something (Discuss)
• Are there times you are slow in doing what you are asked (Discuss)
• Are there times when you eventually don't do this task at all
(Discuss)
• Do you know what responsibility means? (Explain if necessary)
• In our families, we are only a strong and effective family when
we all pull together
• That means sharing something of the load - Load dishwasher, dry
dishes, mow lawn, make our bed etc
• If Mum and Dad work, is even more important to help out as they
have little time to do many of the domestic duties, and after all, deserve
some time to themselves to relax as well.
• In today's story there were two sons. (Relate the story again
in a basic way)
• Which one of the sons do you think did the right thing by his
family?
• Society at large have lots of unwritten as well as written rules.
• (Demonstrate a number of larger sign you have had made)
• These rules are designed to make the roads safer, but there are
also other rules that are not written down. eg: Showing consideration
to other drivers, letting them in if a road lane runs out, waving to say
thanks when a motorist helps you out etc.
• It is like that at home as well. Although we do not have rules
that say we should do this or that, the rule of showing consideration
and love to other members of our families does not need them to be written
down.
• Jesus in the story today is reminding us that we should show we
are serious in our love and carry through what we say we are going to
do. We must not let people down because we are lazy or slack.
• If you love you family you will do what Jesus would want us to.
