Kids Address

• Do you know what a bully is? (Discuss if they have experience one)
• It is very hard when you are bring picked on to turn the other cheek as today's bible reading tells us to (Explain)
• But how would you feel if this bully, who was on a school excursion with you, suddenly fell down a deep hole.
• Would you be happy. Would you help him. Would you leave him there are just laugh at him
• Or would you show him mercy (Explain)
• Today's reading is all about that. Jesus is saying that we must not follow the example of bad people. Rather we should follow the example of those who would do the right thing.
• What do you think the right thing would be to do (Discuss)
• When you in fact help this bully, you are turning the other cheek.
• Jesus wants us to follow his example (cf Bullies or people who mocked Jesus, spat on him, laughed as he was whipped etc)
• From the cross Jesus says "Forgive them Dad because they don't realise what they are doing" Jesus showed mercy and so too should we, hard at times as it can be.
