"Jesus is rejected in his own home town."

Today's selected readings: – Mark 6: 1-13

• What are some of the things that make you sad? (Discuss)
• What about at school. Have you found school friends who are nasty and who reject you, or refuse to play with you because they have found someone better? Discuss
• Some people can even be unkind about the place where you live
• Here in Werribee, where the sewerage farm resides, there are people who reject those of us who live here. They feel we are amongst people who are not as good as them.
• Isn't that sad. Do you feel you are as good as people who live in the eastern side of Melbourne? (Discuss)
• It can also happen to Adults. There are people who miss out on special jobs because they are branded as being, Werribee type people (What ever that is supposed to mean)
• Jesus too had the same problem. You and I know how special Jesus is, but those who had grown up with him in Nazareth did not believe he was very important at all.
• Also people who lived in other towns would say "But he comes from Nazareth (Many thought that Nazareth was like Werribee) so he would not be of any value"
• Imagine how sad Jesus would have been to be rejected.
• Sadly today, people still reject Jesus. They say he is of little importance, and anyone who follows him must be the same.
• So when you encourage one of your friends to come and be a part of worship here, you are saying to them, I love Jesus and I would never disown him.
• Next time you get rejected for what ever reason, just remember you are not alone. This also happened to Jesus, and you know that Jesus would never reject you.
