• Do you like spiders? What is it you don't like? (Discuss)
• What about a spider and a fly. Both are part of what God created.
Each has its own use. Spiders keep down the fly population. and flys lay
eggs on dead animals, birds etc which become maggots and in turn rot away
the animals body over time.
• What about the Mongoose and Snakes (Explain their purpose)
• You see - each of these creatures are important to God's world,
and whilst they are different in looks and function, they are as important
as one another.
• What about people - Some are teachers, lawyers, plumbers, builders
etc. Teachers at times needs plumbers, and plumbers need teachers for
their children to learn.
• We may be different in the gifts God has given us, but none the
less each of us is important and valued in God's great plan for society.
• In today's story we learn of a quiet person, deep thinker, cares
for people and likes to be with them.(Mary) We also hear about another
women who is a real worker, keeps the house tidy, cooks the meals, cleans
the house etc.(Martha)
• But Martha gets cross with Mary as being lazy. Maybe she is a
little jealous.
• True we all need to do our share about the house - Help out when
needed and share the load
• But Jesus says do what you do well, and in this case, Mary was
a real carer and host whilst Martha was excellent in preparing wonderful
foods for guests.
• Jesus tells us both jobs are important.
• So what are you good at? (Discuss)
• Today you are going to make a model out of Lego (in pairs) and
you are going to need the skills of both of you to work together
• Combining the skills you both have makes for a better result
• A shared response and God is able to say well done. You have both
shared your skills with one another.
