• What happens when you love someone? (Discuss)
• Sometimes you just love that person so much you just want to cuddle
then, hug them and just smother them with kisses. Has this even happened
to you? How did you feel?
• This is how Mary felt about Jesus. She was just so impressed with
Jesus and with the wonderful things he did for people that she just wanted
to be with him all the times.
• And so in one moment of impulse (explain), she just poured this
expensive ointment over him and started to rub it into his skin with her
long hair.
• This was a special act as the ointment was what rich people used
as a deodorant, healing wounds etc and would have been worth about $10,000
in today's money.
• Now you may say that is just a waste. But think about your parents
at birthday time or Christmas. You often don't just get one gift, but
stacks of them. In other words your parents love you so much they just
want to shower you with gifts to show their love of you.
• That is what it was like for Mary
• Every time we come here to church and share ourselves with others
in the congregation, and are helping to shower them or give them plenty
of love. When you talk to adults, offer them a cake or biscuit for morning
tea, offer them a chair. These are all wonderful things of showing your
love for others
• You may not pour oil on them, but you certainly show them you
ca give them love and show concern.
• And what do you think Jesus does when he sees all this (Discuss)
• Looks down and smiles and says - Hey! there is ....... and he/she
is special to me.
