Good Samaritan

Parable of the Good Samaritan

Today's selected reading: Luke 10: 25-37

Kids Address
• Have you ever seen sad boys and girls in the playground at school?
• What about someone who has hurt themselves and is bleeding?
• Do you just ignore these kids and just go past them, watch them crying, and just say "Sook"?
• What do you think the correct thing would be to do? (Discuss) - Tell a teacher, try and comfort them, wet a handkerchief and bath the wound etc
• Do you think this is what Jesus would want us to do and why would this be so?
• In today's story we see a number of people who were of the same family (Jews) who just ignored the bashed man and did not want to get involved.
• Then it took a complete stranger to come along and offer help
• Who do you think would be the people Jesus was proud of. The Jews or the Samaritan (Explain the difference)
• Today we have members of the Karen Community with us. Some of them have come from very uncomfortable conditions in a refuge camp. Do you know what a refuge camp is? (Discuss)
• Many of the Karen population in Werribee have come from camps on the Thailand/Burma border.
• A number of people in Australia have acted like a 'good samaritan' and organised for a number of families to resettle in this country to give them a better life.
• When we offer help to others, whether it is to a school friend in the playground, a friend at home or the children in the refuge camp we are being 'good samaritans'
• Today you are going to show the children in the refuge cap overseas that we care in the activity you will make. This will be sent to one of the schools in the camp.
• This is an example of Christian love in action.
