• When you have a birthday, do you keep this information to yourself
or do you like to tell others about it? (Discuss)
• Why is it then you like to share this good news about a birthday?
(Discuss)
• Of course it is an important day as it only happens once a year,
and if your Mum and Dad organise a special party with lots of your friends,
they would say "Thank Heavens"
• But if you have a party, you like to invite a few friends and
sometimes this means handing out an invitation card asking them to come.
What sorts of things would you include on the invitation? (Discuss)
• In today's special story we heard how Jesus went to church and
took part in one of the services by reading from part of the Old Testament.
• The bible (What is that? - Discuss) has two main parts. An old
section and a new section. The old section was before Jesus was born and
the new section was after he was born.
• There is an easy way to remember how many books there are in the
bible.
• How many letters in "Old" 3 How many in "Testament"
9 (Testament means stories about what God's people have done for God)
- It is the same numbers for the New Testament.
• So in the OT you push the two numbers together to get 39
• In the NT you multiply them together to get 27
• Now back to today's reading. Jesus read the story from the bible
and like us today, he wants all of us to understand what God wants from
us as Christians
• We do that when we come to church, listen to God's word and learn
more about what it means
• Next week we have a special "Monster 'Big G' Treasure Hunt"
• We want you to invite some of your friends to come along with
you so they too can learn a little more about what God can do for them
and how he wants them to join our special church family on a regular basis.
