Being Accepted

How to be accepted as you are

Today's selected reading: – Luke 4: 21-30

Kids Address
• How do you feel when kids are selecting teams and you are one of the last to be picked? (Discuss)
• All of us like to feel wanted and not being the most popular on the block can be very hurtful.
• Maybe you have the same experience because you are not as tall as the other kids, you can't run as fast or because your skin is not the same colour
• We are lucky in this church to have people from different nationalities because they bring with them their own customs which can be a help to us as well.
• Think of the great food nights when we sit down to a chinese meal or an Indian meal etc
• In today's story, Jesus is telling people things about God that they did not want to hear and they became cross, rude and even violent
• As your priest there are times when even I share things from the bible that people don't want to hear
• Especially a message that challenges adults to share their faith with others not belonging to this church
• Now some of you today have done just that. You have invited some children to join you on the "Big G" Treasure hunt.
• You will have to be clever, because you need t know the Jesus stories.
• Eg: Jesus chose his first disciples because of the job they did. You need to know what their job was and then to find a sign or drawing (Fish) Under this will will find one of the tokens you have to collect.
• So well done all of you who have invited and brought a friend with you today. Now go and enjoy the "Big G Treasure Hunt"

Kids Church Activity:
: “Big G” Treasure Hunt. Two or more teams to be chosen and to stress to children how awful it is to be chosen last and how you might feel. To get them to chose mid way at least one or two of the (possibly) un-coordinated kids. Winning team receives prizes. To make the clues such that they help remind children of their faith. Eg: Under the items Jesus died on as one clue, In the communion we receive …….(bread) and wine. (In our case we have a bakery display set up from the Christmas display), Jesus chose these men first to be disciples (Have a fish on the wall) Etc

What you need to get ready:
Sheet with the clues, Treasure tokens with numbers (Each team to have a number). Each team must only collect the token with their number on it, small prizes for winning and losing teams.
